From the Bell to the Bus and Beyond: Rosa Parks - This exhibit traces the civil rights movement back through time to the civil war, when abolitionists first began to call the iconic bell, the "Liberty" bell. Moving forward in time, the exhibit shows how following the abolition of slavery, the development of Jim Crow laws necessitated the modern civil rights movement. Rosa Parks' story emerges from this background and then raises questions about the issue of racial justice today. Free activity books are available for children with information about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Historic Architecture in a Changing Cityscape: Architect Lewis Jacoby - Many of the buildings designed by Lewis Jacoby continue to be a part of Allentowns changing cityscape. The Beaux-Arts classical Allentown National Bank Building, now home to the Center Square Apartments on the northeast corner of Seventh and Hamilton Streets; the Breinig & Bachman building, whose terra-cotta animals watch over traffic at the southeast corner of Sixth and Hamilton Streets; and Zions Reformed Church, with its ornate, awe-inspiring sanctuary; all are the work of Lewis Jacoby. He also designed numerous homes, including that of General Harry C. Trexler. This exhibit coincides with the 125th anniversary of Zions church sanctuary, and is a timely reminder of the many beautiful, historic structures in our downtown even as the PPL Arena and City Center buildings take shape around them.A Jubilee Anniversary for a Jubilee Bell - Long before it became known as the Liberty Bell, it was cast to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Charter of Privileges of William Penn. The Charter is one of the documents that formed the basis for our nations Bill of Rights. Also, explore our timeline of pictures depicting how the bell hanging in the State House in Philadelphia became the Liberty Bell. This exhibit is displayed in our Portraits of Freedom exhibit area.

Pip the Mouse Program - This annual program draws thousands of children, parents and grandparents to see a historic holiday puppet show, using a fully restored stage and soundtrack from the original 1962 production popularized by the Hess Brothers' Department Store in downtown Allentown. While visiting for the holiday show, everyone also learns the history of the hiding of the Liberty Bell on site, as well as about Pennsylvania Dutch holiday traditions. Pip the Mouse then transforms into Pip 'the Colonial' Mouse the rest of the year, introducing children to our museum and its stories in annual events like the Fourth of July bell ringing ceremony as well as special events to teach Pip's Pals (children under 12) about life in the colonial era.
