Good Samaritan Foundation has encouraged charitable giving from the community since its establishment in 1969. The Foundation supports the advancement of research, education, and technology in medical science at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center.Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, founded in 1875 by the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, stands in the heart of northwest Portland as one of the Pacific Northwests oldest and most advanced medical centers. Legacy Good Samaritan provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, with special emphasis on its centers of excellence, including:* Cancer Services* Emergency and Critical Care* Devers Eye Institute * Diabetes & Weight Management Services* Legacy Hospice Services* Rehabilitation Institute of OregonIn fiscal year 2015, philanthropic contributions supported programs in four major areas:Patient Care $4,865,905Research $2,033,099 Education and Training$803,973Community Benefit & Other Hospital Programs$51,136Some of the specific projects funded in this year were as follows: Invested in the newest robotic surgery technology available to offer innovative, minimally invasive surgical procedures in urology, colorectal, gynecology and cardiac surgery. Provided free screening for lung cancer, the second leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease, to underserved patients throughout the Portland metropolitan area. Funded a pilot study offering telemedicine screenings at primary care clinics to underserved patients who have difficulty attaining eye exams to detect diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, the two leading causes of blindness. Supported innovative research to identify specific receptors that can be regulated through medication and diet to assist patients with neurological diseases, including stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimers and Parkinsons. Purchased Continuous Glucose Monitors to loan to diabetes patients for two weeks, allowing them to see their blood sugar level 24-hours a day, providing insights on managing diabetes for both the patient and their provider. Supported purchase of wheelchair and seating systems for patients without insurance or other financial resources to afford necessary equipment to avoid problems such as skin breakdown/pressure sores and/or postural deformities that put stress on their internal organs. Provided operating support for Legacy Hospice Services. Fulfilled specific, short-term needs of Legacy Medical Group patients who have insufficient resources to meet a basic living need that directly impacts their health. Provided scholarships for nursing students attending the Linfield School of Nursing. Supported the operations of Green Gables Guest House.

Legacy Good Samaritan provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, with special emphasis on its centers of excellence, including:* Cancer Services* Emergency and Critical Care* Devers Eye Institute * Diabetes & Weight Management Services* Legacy Hospice Services* Rehabilitation Institute of OregonIn fiscal year 2017, philanthropic contributions supported programs in four major areas:Patient Care $2,895,411Research $2,660,368 Education and Training $ 630,937Community Benefit & Other Hospital Programs $ 10,112Some of the specific projects funded in this year were as follows: Purchased equipment used in physical therapy to decrease lymphedema/edema, mobilize scar tissue, increase function and soft tissue mobility, and decrease risk of infection and skin breakdown. Funded the establishment of a Geriatric Oncology Coordinated Care Clinic to better meet the needs of cancer patients age 70 and above. Provided essential immunosuppressive medication to kidney transplant patients without prescription drug coverage or financial means. Supported the implementation of a new, multi-disciplinary care model that brings comprehensive pain management services and opiate addictions treatment services together within the Pain Management Clinic. Purchased equipment and supplies needed to provide evidence-based biofeedback treatment for chronic pain management. Funded general and specialty care diagnosis, procedures and surgeries for ophthalmology patients without insurance coverage or financial means. Supported innovative research to identify ways to improve outcomes and experiences for patients suffering from Parkinsons, Alzheimers, cancer, epilepsy, stroke, diabetes and glaucoma. Purchased software and technical instruments used to provide complex and less invasive spine procedures. Provided scholarships for nursing students attending the Linfield School of Nursing.
