United way supports quality early learning programs, mostly preschool, and provides afterschool programming for struggling middle school students to help them academically and socially so that they enter high school on track for graduation. For the year ending June 30, 2015, we helped 568 young children improve their screening scores and provided 649 children with well child check-ups. For the middle school population in the northern suburbs, we served 876 young people with programming. 876 previously struggling middle school students were promoted to the next grade level on track for graduation.

On the school-based prevention side, united way north-northwest supported 842 youth with increased access to fresh and healthy foods and 1,195 young people with access to safe places for physical activity. Basic needs For those most need in our communities, united way north-northwest is a core provider of food, shelter and safety from domestic violence. For the year ending June 30, 2015, united way north-northwest served 523,749; including providing 396,330 people with food; 140,104 people with emergency housing or financial assistance to stay in their home; and 10,317 people with safety from violence in the home.
