Primary exempt purposeTo provide low cost supervised housing for dual diagnosis individuals in the West and East Hawaii areas. Operation of program ceased in May of 2015. Bank account remained open to pay final bills.To provide low cost supervised housing for dual diagnosis individuals in the West and East Hawaii areas.

Alahou's facilities consist of 19 one and two bedroom furnished apartments in three separate but adjoining buildings. Tenant living quarters are segregated by gender but tenants share common areas such as covered lanai and coin operated laundry facility. Residents maintain all the common areas. Volunteer staff work with tenant representatives to facilitate management of apartments. Staff works with doctors, counselors, social workers, etc. to provide tenants the structured environment they need to live independently. This program has been successful in reducing the number of mentally ill and drug and alcohol dependent adults living on the street and beaches of West Hawaii.
