EPARTNERS TECHNOLOGY, SIMILAR TO AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL ROOM, PROVIDES AN EXTRA LAYER OF SAFETY AND QUALITY FOR CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS BY USING A REMOTE SECOND LAYER OF EXPERIENCED CARE PROVIDERS. IT IMPROVES OUTCOMES BY PROVIDING EARLY INTERVENTION IF PATIENTS SHOW ANY SIGN OF A DETERIORATING CONDITION. THE REMOTE TEAM EVEN HAS CAMERA ACCESS THAT CAN ZOOM IN ON A PATIENT'S PUPIL OR CHECK MEDICATION DETAILS. THE ONSITE AND REMOTE TEAMS COMMUNICATE BY MICROPHONE AND WORK TOGETHER TO DETERMINE CARE DECISIONS. SINCE THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HUMAN INTERACTION, THE BEDSIDE TEAM REMAINS THE FRONT LINE OF CARE FOR THE CRITICAL PATIENT. HOWEVER, EPARTNERS PROVIDES A SECOND SET OF EYES WATCHING OUT FOR THE SAFETY AND QUALITY CARE OF PATIENTS. SO THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WATCHING AND CARING FOR YOUR LOVED ONE. THE EPARTNERS TEAM DOES VIRTUAL ROUNDS ON THE SICKEST PATIENTS EVERY HOUR AND ON STABLE PATIENTS EVERY TWO HOURS. THEY ARE TRUE PARTNERS WITH THE NURSES AND PHYSICIANS AT THE BEDSIDE. THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CRITICAL CARE NURSES AWARDED IU HEALTH EPARTNERS THE CIRCLE OF EXCELLENCE AWARD IN 2008.

IU Health Methodist Cardiology has a significant history in heart care including the first open-heart surgery in Indiana, the first private hospital in the world to perform a heart transplant and the first artificial heart surgery in Indiana. Other milestones include the first heart-lung transplant in Indiana, the first robotic mitral valve heart repair in Indiana and the first to invent and develop an implantable cardioverter. We are a Level One Cardiac Program and Level One Vascular Emergency Program. IU Health has the necessary equipment and specially trained staff to perform a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the preferred heart attack treatment. Less than one in four hospitals in America have this luxury. IU Health coordinates with other hospitals across Central Indiana to transport heart attack patients to IU Health Cardiovascular, where the specialized procedure can be performed.

Program descriptionIU Health Methodist Cardiology has a significant history in heart care including the first open-heart surgery in Indiana, the first private hospital in the world to perform a heart transplant and the first artificial heart surgery in Indiana.

This grant supported the acquisition of a True Beam STx linear accelerator. Linear accelerators are used to produce high energy electrons and X-rays to deliver radiation treatments. The True Beam STx has the capability to both treat standard radiation plans and deliver specialized treatment plans not possible with standard linear accelerators (stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy). Treatments delivered with the True Beam STx will benefit patients with cancer diagnoses by providing stereotactic capabilities currently delivered by other machines that are at the end of their functional lives. Upgrading capabilities with this machine will maintain the ability to deliver these specialized radiation treatments and provide them more efficiently. This will reduce the amount of time patients are under treatment and makes the experience more pleasant for them. The True Beam STx will support the care provided at IUH Methodist Hospital, IUH University Hospital, and IUH Simon Cancer Center by multiple disciplines in the Cancer and Neuroscience service lines. Treatments on this device will also benefit patients from other cities in Indiana to receive specialty care at the Academic Health Center.
