AAI FELLOWSHIPS PROVIDE REGULAR AND TRAINEE MEMBERS WITH CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH PROGRAMS SUPPORTING TRAINEES' SALARIES AND PUBLIC POLICY EDUCATION. AAI CAREER AWARDS HONOR INDIVIDUALS FOR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AND CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS. AAI MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THESE CAREER AWARDS, WHICH ARE AMONG THE LEADING PROFESSIONAL HONORS PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO IMMUNOLOGISTS. AAI TRAVEL AWARDS AND GRANTS RECOGNIZE THE PROMISE AND BOLSTER THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF INVESTIGATORS OF ALL CAREER STAGES BY ASSISTING THEM WITH TRAVEL TO THE AAI ANNUAL MEETING AND TRAVEL TO LEARN TECHNIQUES. IN ITS COMMITMENT TO THE CULTIVATION OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROMISING YOUNG SCIENTISTS, AAI ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR OVER 100 TRAVEL AWARDS AT SELECTED OTHER IMMUNOLOGY CONFERENCES.AWARDS:THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF IMMUNOLOGISTS ANNUALLY HONORS THE RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROFESSIONAL PROMISE OF OVER 1,000 SCIENTISTS THROUGH FELLOWSHIPS, CAREER AWARDS, AND TRAVEL GRANTS. COMMITTEES AND MEMBER SERVICES - AN IMPORTANT FUNCTION OF AAI IS ITS INTERACTION WITH RELATED SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATIONS, INSTITUTIONS, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THE KNOWLEDGE OF IMMUNOLOGY, AAI IS AFFILIATED WITH OTHER SCIENTIFIC ASSOCIATIONS AND PROVIDES ITS MEMBERS WITH CONCURRENT MEMBERSHIPS IN THE FEDERATION OF AMERICAN SOCIETIES FOR EXPERIMENTAL BIOLOGY ("FASEB") AND IN THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF IMMUNOLOGICAL SOCIETIES ("IUIS"). AAI'S AFFILIATION WITH THESE OTHER SCIENTIFIC ASSOCIATIONS ALLOWS IT TO UTILIZE ALL SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENTS IN THE STUDY OF IMMUNOLOGY PRODUCED THROUGH DIFFERENT VENUES. THROUGH ITS ASSOCIATION WITH IUIS, AAI AND ITS MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL ISSUES CONFRONTING EDUCATION AND RESEARCH IN IMMUNOLOGY. AAI DONATES ADVERTISING TO IUIS TO PROMOTE THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF IMMUNOLOGY (ICI) AND IUIS ACTIVITIES.AAI OFTEN NOMINATES ITS MEMBERS AND OTHER IMMUNOLOGISTS FOR GOVERNMENT AWARDS, ACTIVITIES, AND PANELS, INCLUDING PROGRAMS OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ALLERGY AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES ("NIAID"), THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE ("AAAS"), AND THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN MEDICAL COLLEGES ("AAMC"). AAI ALSO KEEPS IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS OF IMMUNOLOGY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TO NOTIFY ITS MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT FELLOWSHIP, AWARD, TRAINING, AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES.

THE JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY:A MAJOR VEHICLE OF INFORMATION DISSEMINATION FOR RESEARCH FINDINGS IN THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY IS THROUGH PUBLICATION OF THAT WORK IN THE JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY (THE JI) - A SCHOLARLY PUBLICATION OWNED AND PRODUCED BY AAI. THE JI IS PUBLISHED SEMIMONTHLY AND REPORTS NOVEL RESULTS FROM ALL AREAS OF EXPERIMENTAL IMMUNOLOGY. IT IS THE OLDEST AND MOST HIGHLY CITED JOURNAL IN THE FIELD. THE JI IS PUBLISHED IN PRINT AND ONLINE, AND IS DISTRIBUTED TO ALL AAI MEMBERS AS WELL AS OTHER SUBSCRIBERS, INCLUDING MAJOR RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS AND BIOTECH COMPANIES. ABSTRACTS OF ALL ARTICLES ARE PUBLISHED ONLINE IMMEDIATELY UPON PUBLICATION, AND ARE FREELY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. FULL LENGTH ARTICLES ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE TO THE PUBLIC 12 MONTHS AFTER THEIR INITIAL PUBLICATION. ALL JOURNAL CONTENT CAN BE VIEWED AT WWW.JIMMUNOL.ORG. THE JI EDUCATES AAI MEMBERS AS WELL AS NON-MEMBER SCIENTISTS AND PHYSICIANS, AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD OF IMMUNOLOGY. IT ALSO FOSTERS SCIENTIFIC DISCOURSE AMONG IMMUNOLOGISTS BY ESTABLISHING A FORUM FOR THE DISSEMINATION AND DISCUSSION OF CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH IN IMMUNOLOGY. OVERSIGHT FOR THE ACTIVITIES AND POLICIES OF THE JI ARE CARRIED OUT BY AN EIGHT-MEMBER PUBLICATION COMMITTEE, WHICH ALSO INCLUDES THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WHO SERVES AS THE EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF THE JI.
