THIS IS IN ADDITION TO OUR CORE WORK AS A MEMBER SERVICES ORGANIZATION FACILITATING AND IMPROVING THE OPERATIONS OF OUR 25 LOCAL UNITED WAY CHAPTERS SERVED IN THE STATE.UNITED WAY ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA CONTINUED OUR WORK TO IMPROVE THE LIVES AND WELL-BEING OF SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS IN 2016. RESOURCES AND INITIATIVES UNDERWAY IN THE ORGANIZATION INCLUDE VARIOUS GRANTS AND INITIATIVES TO PROMOTE QUALITY CHILDCARE POLICY, FUNDING AND SERVICE COORDINATION. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO OUR CORE WORK AS A MEMBER SERVICES ORGANIZATION FACILITATING AND IMPROVING THE OPERATIONS OF OUR 25 LOCAL UNITED WAY CHAPTERS SERVED IN THE STATE. IN 2016, WE EXPANDED OUR IN THE AREA OF FINANCIAL STABILITY TO INCLUDE THE PUBLICATION OF A STUDY ASSESSING THE ACTUAL COSTS FOR SOUTH CAROLINA FAMILIES TO MEET BASIC NEEDS. "THE SELF-SUFFICIENCY STANDARD FOR SOUTH CAROLINA 2016" DEFINES THE INCOME WORKING FAMILIES NEED TO MEET THEIR BASIC NECESSITIES WITHOUT PRIVATE OR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE. THE STANDARD IS CALCULATED FOR 152 DIFFERENT FAMILY TYPES FOR EACH COUNTY OR AREA IN THE STATE. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION CHARTERED INTO THE WORK OF COLLECTIVE IMPACT BY CREATING A GREATER FOCUS AND COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS AROUND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION.UNITED WAY ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH CAROLINA CONTINUED OUR WORK TO IMPROVE THE LIVES AND WELL-BEING OF SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS IN 2015. RESOURCES AND INITIATIVES UNDERWAY IN THE ORGANIZATION INCLUDE VARIOUS GRANTS AND INITIATIVES TO PROMOTE QUALITY CHILDCARE POLICY, FUNDING AND SERVICE COORDINATION. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO OUR CORE WORK AS A MEMBER SERVICES ORGANIZATION FACILITATING AND IMPROVING THE OPERATIONS OF OUR 25 LOCAL UNITED WAY CHAPTERS SERVED IN THE STATE. FURTHER, IN 2015, SIGNIFICANT EVENTS OCCURRED INVOLVING A SIGNIFICANT DISASTER AND UWASC PLAYED A PROMINENT ROLE IN DEALING WITH DISASTER RECOVERY WITHIN THE STATE.SEE SCHEDULE O FOR ADDTIONAL INFORMATIONFURTHER, OUR WORK IN FINANCIAL STABILITY ALLOWED US TO LEVERAGE THE IN-KIND OF 18 AMERICORPS VISTAS WHO WILL PUT 1,700 HOURS EACH OF SERVICE TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF ORGANIZATIONS TO SERVE THE MOST VULNERABLE CITIZENS IN THE STATE. DURING THE YEAR, UNITED WAY'S SC 2-1-1 CONTACT CENTER RESPONDED TO MORE THAN 3.8 MILLION CONTACTS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENTS SEEKING INFORMATION ON ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE COVERAGE AND SERVICES, FOOD AND NUTRITION, AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES. IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, UWASC STAFF WAS PLACED IN CRITICAL POSITIONS TO ADVANCE THE RESPONSE PROCESS ACROSS THE STATE. IN ADDITION TO RESPONDING TO AN INFLUX OF CALLS TO OUR SC 2-1-1 INFORMATION & REFERRAL LINE, UWASC STAFF ANSWERED CALLS FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION'S PUBLIC INFORMATION PHONE SYSTEM (PIPS) BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE STORM. UWASC'S STATE SERVICE COMMISSION STAFF LED EFFORTS CONNECTING SPONTANEOUS, UNAFFILIATED VOLUNTEERS WITH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE, LEVERAGED NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS FROM THE COMMISSION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, OFFERED SUPPORT SERVICES TO UNITED WAYS IN AREAS IMPACTED BY THE FLOOD, AND SERVED AS EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA VOLUNTARY AGENCIES ACTIVE IN DISASTER (VOAD) COLLABORATION. THEY CHAIRED THE VOLUNTEER TASK FORCE FOR THE STATE VOAD AND PROVIDED THREE MONTHS OF INTENSIVE SUPPORT THROUGH THE END OF 2015 TO COORDINATE RESPONSE AND RECOVERY. UWASC WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, SC EMD, SC DISASTER RECOVERY CELL, LOCAL UNITED WAYS, HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS AND VOLUNTARY AGENCIES, AND SOUTH CAROLINA CITIZENS AFFECTED BY THE FLOOD. IN ALL, WE'VE RESPONDED TO OVER 43,000 DISASTER RELATED CALLS, PUT IN OVER 2300 STAFF HOURS EQUATING TO OVER $53,000, AND HAVE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT LONG TERM RECOVERY EFFORTS INTO 2016.

THE COMMISSION IS SOUTH CAROLINA'S LEAD AGENCY ON VOLUNTEERISM AND NATIONAL SERVICE.
