The Kennebec Valley Tennis Association (KVTA) has one mission and service - to support and develop year-round tennis facilities and programs for adults and youth in the greater Augusta, Maine area. At the beginning of its second year in operation, in August 2014 KVTA was awarded a $10,000 USTA Facilities Improvement grant, which was used to repaint the four court surfaces. Renovations are now complete.KVTA continues to offer high school players organized Sunday Scrambles. In further support of high school tennis programs and players, in early April 2015 KVTA held a High School team round robin in which five local teams participated. During the spring of 2015, high schools booked about 25 team practices; and five interscholastic matches and one playoff match were played at the facility due to bad weather.Throughout the year, KVTA tennis professionals teach Red Ball (4-7 yr. olds), Orange Ball (8-12 yr. olds), Middle School (12-14 yr. olds), and High School (14-18 yr. olds) programs. Participant numbers grew so much in the younger player programs that we will be hiring another (part-time) tennis professional in the fall of 2015.We also provide Adult programs for Beginner to Advanced players. Cardio Tennis and Triples, taught by a tennis professional hired in November 2014, are popular as well. Other social play opportunities are provided through weekly Friday Night Mixers and periodic Saturday Scrambles. For competitive players a Singles league was offered, and there were three USTA League Tennis teams that played against other Maine club teams January through June 2015.Pickleball continues to grow at the KVTA facility. Three tournaments were hosted in the winter of 2014-15. Additionally, two weekend instructional programs were well attended. We will likely have to create more pickleball courts (add lines to existing tennis courts) in the near future.A-Copi Tennis and Sports Center is open to the public but also offers a membership structure that allows frequent players who pay a membership fee to play tennis and take lessons at reduced rates. Racquet stringing and ancillary tennis equipment (e.g. balls and grips) are also available.Between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015, A-Copi Tennis and Sports Center had about 90 members and served about 130 adult non-members and about 105 junior players.
