Community Trails - In FY13, GVLTs Community Trails Program continued with its mission to connect people, communities, and the land through collaborative trail projects. In our 23-year history, GVLT has helped create over 67 miles of trail. In FY13 we worked with a great diversity of partners to complete a variety of projects to expand, improve and maintain Bozemans Main Street to the Mountains trail system, including adding 5 miles of new trail into our system at Highland Glen Nature Preserve in partnership with the City of Bozeman and Bozeman Deaconess Health Services; installing a new, flagship bridge to connect neighborhoods with the Sourdough Trail, and completing new trail connections at Bozeman Pond.

In our 23-year history, GVLT has helped create over 67 miles of trail. In FY13 we worked with a great diversity of partners to complete a variety of projects to expand, improve and maintain Bozemans Main Street to the Mountains trail system, including adding 5 miles of new trail into our system at Highland Glen Nature Preserve in partnership with the City of Bozeman and Bozeman Deaconess Health Services; installing a new, flagship bridge to connect neighborhoods with the Sourdough Trail, and completing new trail connections at Bozeman Pond.
Community Trails - In FY14, GVLTs Community Trails Program continued with its mission to connect people, communities, and the land through collaborative trail projects. In our 24-year history, GVLT has helped create over 70 miles of trail. In FY14 we worked with a great diversity of partners to complete a variety of projects to expand, improve and maintain Bozemans Main Street to the Mountains trail system, including: acquiring 9 acres of vacant land to expand the popular Bozeman Pond Park; adding a new pedestrian bridge into the Gallatin County Regional Park to provide better connectivity to a neighboring middle school; and re-routing the popular Triple Tree Trail for a safer, more sustainable trail. In total, GVLT constructed 6.5 miles of new trail in FY14.

Community Trails - In FY17, GVLTs Community Trails Program continued with its mission to connect people, communities, and the land through collaborative trail projects. In our 27-year history, GVLT has helped create over 80 miles of trail. This year we constructed the Stockyard Connector, a trail linking the Story Mill Spur Trail with the soon-to-be-constructed Path to the M; secured two vital trail easements to connect the Painted Hills Gap trail; installed a trail counter on the Gallagator Trail to analyze usage patterns; and coordinated the Trail Ambassador program with 10 partner organizations to use volunteer trail ambassadors for education and outreach with over 1,200 trail users.

Program descriptionCommunity Trails - In FY17, GVLTs Community Trails Program continued with its mission to connect people, communities, and the land through collaborative trail projects. In our 27-year history, GVLT has helped create over 80 miles of trail. This year we constructed the Stockyard Connector, a trail linking the Story Mill Spur Trail with the soon-to-be-constructed Path to the M; secured two vital trail easements to connect the Painted Hills Gap trail; installed a trail counter on the Gallagator Trail to analyze usage patterns; and coordinated the Trail Ambassador program with 10 partner organizations to use volunteer trail ambassadors for education and outreach with over 1,200 trail users.

The new TrailsRX program collaborated with local physicians to write over 60 trail walk prescriptions for patients.Education - GVLT provided 28 community presentations and participated in seven community events reaching over 2,100 people. Our monthly email newsletter reached more than 2,300 community members. The GVLT website is updated monthly with current news relating to community trails, private land conservation and events open to the public. Our website also hosts a transparency section with our Audit, annual report, and Form 990. We are active on social media and engage over 2,000 followers on Facebook, 1,300 on Twitter, and hundreds on Instagram. We had 750 volunteers who gave over 2,800 hours for the organization in the year, and all volunteers are educated about the mission and accomplishments of GVLT during their service. For the first year ever, we hosted guided group walks on the Main Street to the Mountains trail system. Over 260 people attended our 38 walks to learn about GVLT, the trails, and interesting topics like wildflowers, birds, yoga and more.  
Land Conservation - GVLT collaborated with a family to conserve 640 acres of prime farmland, exceptional wildlife habitat, and an important creek headwaters adjacent to other conserved lands in Gallatin County, Montana. This brings our total conserved land to over 42,800 acres in 90 conservation easements and is a milestone in our goal of protecting the most important private lands in our service area. In 2014, GVLT was awarded accreditation renewal by the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission. The accreditation seal is a mark of distinction in land conservation and indicates that GVLT meets national standards for excellence, upholding the public trust, and ensuring that our conservation efforts are permanent. In FY14 we provided stewardship and monitoring to every conservation easement that we hold and maintained records of our stewardship work. We also continued with outreach to landowners in our priority focus areas, providing information about conservation options and assisting landowners with cost-share funding when possible. In FY14, we assisted with 21 stewardship enhancement projects on the ground, worth a total of over $80,000.

As an accredited land trust, we provided stewardship and monitoring to every conservation easement that we hold and maintained records of our stewardship work. We also continued with outreach to landowners in our priority focus areas, providing information about conservation options and assisting landowners with cost-share funding when possible.
