MULTIDISCIPLINARY ASSESSMENT TEAM (MAT) PROGRAM: IS TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF CHILDREN WHO HAVE ENTERED THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. PROVIDING ENHANCED EARLY ASSESSMENT OF THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE WILL DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THOSE CHILDREN WAIT WITHOUT RECEIVING TREATMENT FOR THEIR ONGOING MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. CHILDREN RECEIVING MAT ASSESSMENT WILL BENEFIT FROM A REDUCTION IN THEIR MENTAL HEALTH SYMPTOMS AND AN INCREASE IN THEIR ABILITY TO MEET THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES THROUGH COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT AND EXPEDITED ENROLLMENT IN TREATMENT SERVICES. THE ASSESSMENT PROVIDES REFERRALS TO THE FAMILY FOR SUPPORT SERVICES AIMED TO INCREASE THEIR ABILITY TO PROVIDE AN APPROPRIATE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CHILD. THEREFORE, IN ADDITION TO ADDRESSING THE SPECIFIC MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF THE CHILD, THE MAT ASSESSMENT PROCESS ALSO FACILITATES STRIDES TOWARDS EITHER REUNIFICATION OR MORE SECURE/PERMANENT PLACEMENTS FOR THE CLIENTS.
